Geoff Beckett

A self-taught artist, Geoff original calling was numbers and
he gained a degree in Maths from York University in 2004 before starting on a
career in finance. He painted as a hobby but found a strong demand for his work
and so returned to his Welsh roots in the Maelor (on the North Wales, Cheshire
and Shropshire border) to take up art as a profession.
Geoff's art was first published within a few months of turning full-time and
limited editions continue to be published. His work is collected
internationally and has been a top-seller in local galleries.
As well as painting, he runs the popular Copper Tree Gallery with his eldest
sister, with picture framing by the gallery being nominated in the top ten
finalists of the national Picture Business Competition in both 2008 and 2009
and displayed at the Spring Fair at the NEC.
Mainly painting landscapes with the occasional figurative piece, the idea
behind the paintings is simply that each should set the scene or tell a tale -
visual storytelling. With the exception of Geoff's local scenes they all come
straight out of his imagination. He typically paints on canvas with acrylics,
with several layers of paint building up the vibrant colours, although also
working in mixed media on thick paper - mostly watercolour but also with ink,
pencil, charcoal and gouache thrown in.
Geoff is an artist member of the Fine Art Trade Guild.
